Personal Bio

Dr. Prieto-Langarica is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Youngstown State University and the Director for Academic Programs at the Sokolov Honors College also at YSU.

She received her Undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008 and her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2012. Prieto-Langarica’s research is in the intersection of mathematics and biology, specifically problems related to the medical field. Recently she started conducting research in data science, mathematics education, and public policy.

Prieto-Langarica has been recognized with awards such as the Herny L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching from the Mathematical Association of America in 2019. She was also among the 3 MVPs at the Mahoning Valley Youngs Professionals 25 under 35 Award in 2017 and was a finalist for the Athena Award in 2019.
